FAQ & Insurance

Here you’ll find answers to many of the most frequently asked questions about our services, including information about insurance and payment options.

Do you accept my insurance plan?

We accept most major commercial insurance plans.

Insurance plans accepted:

  • GHI/Emblem Health
  • Empire/BlueCross BlueShield
  • Beacon
  • 1199 National Benefit Fund
  • Cigna
  • United HealthCare

(Please note: We do not accept Medicaid and Medicare.)

Prior to your appointments, the billing team at CtM will verify your insurance eligibility and patient responsibility. We are in network with most commercial insurances, and our patients often pay only their co-insurance and/or deductible.

If CtM is out of network or we cannot work with your insurance provider due to time concerns*, we will provide you with a self-pay quote. We can also provide an itemized bill to submit to your insurance. Self-pay patients can use a bank check, credit card, cash, or Venmo.

*Private and self-pay options are available for those who need an expedited assessment (extenuating circumstances such as exam or court date).

What’s involved in assessments, and how long does the process take?

The standard testing process generally is multitiered. It involves a review of prior documentation, several hours of testing on multiple days, clinical case building, conferencing, review of current literature, scoring, analysis, and writing.

Time frames for testing depend on factors such as insurance and appointment preferences. For patients using insurance, the process takes four to six months. This time frame gives the clinical team a long view of the patient and allows assessments to build and unfold.

Self-pay testing is quicker - usually 30/45 days. We customize a battery of testing for your situation and its urgency (for example, the assessment is needed before an exam or court date).

Is there a sliding scale or discount available?

While there isn’t a sliding scale, we prioritize clinical benefits over financial incentives whenever possible. In some cases, we accept an NYC Department of Education enhanced rate for a neuropsychological evaluation. We also consider valid CUNY IDs for self-pay discounts (usually around 15-20% depending on the assessment).

Do you provide therapy and counseling?

While our assessments can inform a detailed, customized treatment plan, we do not offer direct therapy or counseling. However, we provide therapeutic techniques and guidance throughout the testing process.
